A young robin happened upon the porch yesterday and took respite on the arm of a chair. It was less than a foot away and completely unaware that I was RIGHT THERE waiting to get it. The bird sat there, dull-witted and oblivious, while I crept stealthily around the door, wishing away the glass separating me from instant dinner.

I tried different vantage points around the doorway, chattering an entrancing song to keep the bird still and pliable. It was working too - the plump little robin didn't seem to hear her mother's alarmed chirps and squawks, preferring instead to listen to my soothing clicks and trills.
If only the glass hadn't been there!
